Determining if you are ready to change....
So you want to lose weight. You tell yourself you are ready. Are you really ready to make some changes?
There is a theory that examines if you are ready to make a life style change called – Transtheoretical model of behavior change. There are 5 distinct stages that does not necessarily follow a particular order.
Pre-contemplation – In this stage you are currently not even considering a lifestyle change. You do not think making a change is important in your life. If you are in this stage you most likely will not be reading this blog.
Contemplation–In this stage you have not started to make any changes but are beginning to think that it is important and realize the implications of not making a change. If you are in this stage, continue to read my blogs, visit some websites for more information, don’t make any quick decisions just do your research and try to figure out what you are willing and not willing to change. Deep down we all know what is holding us back from reaching our goals…..are you ready to decide that your goals are more important than that?
Preparation – In this stage you begin making some changes. In regards to fitness/nutrition you start walking, or join the gym, buy some healthier foods, throw out junks, etc. You are not consistent in this stage, but you are getting ready to adopt this lifestyle. If you are in this stage and need some guidance – contact me.
Action – In this stage you are being consistent; however for less than 6 months. If you are in this stage and making progress, great job!!! If you have not been making the progress you thought you should have or you have plateaued, feel free to contact me.
Maintenance – In this final stage you have been consistent for more than six months. Unless something drastically derails you or you are not seeing results, you have adopted this new behavior.
I believe diet/exercise is all mental….you need your mind to work with your body, not against it.
