My Experience as a Bikini Competitor - Part 6....Show Time!
Food packed in our little coolers and jumped on our flight the day before to register and get spray tanned. Arrive on Oahu – stopped by Foodland to get our post show goodies and checked into our hotel. Waited till registration and walked down to check in and get our height check. Met with Tryson for a final check and tweaks to diet. Headed over to get our spray tan. Sticky and trying not to touch anything to mess up the tan. On our flight over realized that check in and competitors meeting was at 7am on show day– Pre judging to start at 8am. Kind of stressed that we wouldn’t have enough time to get ready but worked it out touch up tan at 5 – makeup lady to meet us at 7 to start makeup while at meeting.
Friday 445am – Woke up (luckily my hubby set his alarm because my phone died so my alarm didn’t go off). Threw on robe and headed to get touch up tan. (got some water stains from brushing my teeth the night before – also slept with my hand on my leg so I had a hand print). We all got done about 530 – enough time to meet Tryson again for breakfast tweaks and headed down at 6am to check in and get our numbers. We had half an hour before 7am meeting so headed to room to eat breakfast.
7am – we headed down for competitors meeting – lasted for about 30 minutes where they went over line up, how long our routines should be, etc. Make up lady came late :( almost 8am.
We were probably about the 7th class so we did have some time; however we still needed to touch up tan, glaze, pump up, etc….so makeup lady had 30 min to finish Dorrie’s makeup in order to start mine to be done by 9am. Since she was running late I started my own….foundation, eyebrows….text from Tryson – show running fast hurry…..okay I’ll start my contour, my lips…..text be down by 845…..fck….eyes….phone call – come down now!!! Grabbed everything and headed down – texted girls – come down now.
Trying to put my eyelashes on backstage – hands shaking I’m trying to rush…….finally on….Tryson starts touching up my tan – Yuri is helping him get us all ready. We are on soon – pump….using resistance bands we do a few shoulders, back, glutes…..5 minutes no time to pump – glaze……now line up……I’m nervous, rushed, anxious, going crazy but it’s time….tell myself cues again….chest up, twist, lean, etc…..up on stage….blank…..haha – I was less nervous than the first time – but still scared none the less. Legs still shook. Tried to make eye contact w/judges w/out it messing me up more. Did my routine and stood in back line. Did my transitions while other competitors did their routine and felt better. I can’t remember if I hit my cues, how exactly I looked – but hoped that with all the practice it was engrained.
Call outs – the judges called out 5 of the 10 competitors for comparisons……I didn’t get called – wth a bit disappointed but Chris was called so thought, at least one of my girls made top 5. I put my smile back on and kept moving….they moved some of the girls around, they called some from the back to the front, Dorrie got called up to front, yeah….2 of my girls got top 5….#76…….oh shit that’s me….(my mouth even moved those words as I didn’t realize they were calling me) comparisons were quite a while as they moved us around a little and compared a few times then thanked us and we all walked off.
Walked off so thankful that we all made top 5….Chris and Dorrie’s first show and they placed top 5 – amazing. My nerves are still going crazy but I’m so happy. Tryson is waiting back stage with a disappointed look “I’m sorry” he says – “seems like they were looking for hard this time- you were there but we softened you out”. I replied that it was absolutely okay – I was proud with what I looked like and I didn’t want to come in that hard either. I have no regrets and I am so thankful for his help.
I ask the girls to come back to my room to talk – check in with them mentally, see how their experience was – see if they need help w/anything. We discuss how long comparisons were and I explain how proud I am of both of them and I am so happy that through this team journey we all placed top 5. They head up to their rooms to rest until night show.
I want to rest but my nerves are still going crazy so text girls who wants to come and hang out w/me…. :) Dorrie comes down so I set up the old bed sheet so the tan won’t stain the hotel bedding and we lay and chat for an hour……
Told the girls come back at 430 to touch up hair and makeup (night show starts at 530 and we are maybe the 5th class so we will probably be on around 630) and so we could check out the vendors booth at 5 before going back stage. At 330pm I decided since the morning was a total nervous rush I should just start getting ready now….Got up and started touching up makeup and straightening my hair…..Dorrie texts me and comes early as well. Finish both of us and good to go for the vendors….we meet Chris and all go in together to check out what’s for sale and what’s for free ;) Walk around for 15 minutes then head back stage. Tryson is back there ready for us – he asks should we start getting ready now or wanna wait – Going w/the no rush theory I ask if we can just get started. Touch up tan again, start pumping, practice posing a bit, glaze, just in time to line up……my contact lens then decides to rip in my eye and I’m only able to pull out half – the other half is stuck behind my upper eyelid. Yuri tries helping me but we can’t seems to get it…..#76…I’m here…I’m here……line up and just said never mind…..let it be stuck, let me be blind in one eye….lol I just hope my eye stops tearing or it’ll look like I’m crying up there. We do our routines and walk off stage. They call 3rd place……2nd place….that’s me and 1st place….that’s the buff one J we get our trophies and take a pic before heading off stage. Dorrie and Chris are there to congratulate me and I am also happy to congratulate them on top 5 as well –we go backstage for our long awaited treat…….reeses peanut butter cup!!!!!!
I had an amazing journey with these ladies and would do it all again in a heartbeat. We all grew closer and I feel truly blessed to have them in my life. As I mentioned before I am super thankful for Tryson – there are no words to explain or how many times I can say thank you that will do justice for what he’s done for me or how he made me feel working with him.
Stay tuned for – Reverse diet…post show wtf….future plans
