Step by Step to a fitter lifestyle - Step 1: Get your mind ready
Here are the steps I believe is needed to start your body transformation….
Get your mind ready
Most times you are either motivated by something external or you are fed up and you decide that you have to make a change. So you jump on a program and give it your all – for the first week. Maybe your will power is strong and you are able to sustain a few weeks – but if you aren’t mentally ready you will quickly fall back into your old patterns.
What I suggest is really digging deep – ask yourself why you want to change? What would your life look like in a few years if you don’t change? What roadblocks have you encountered in the past that prevented you from sticking to a program? What barriers can you foresee that might get in the way? Identify and then come up with strategies beforehand so when the time comes, you are ready to overcome.
Look at your lifestyle and your current habits – what habits or circumstances have prevented you from transforming? What would you need to change? Are you ready and willing to do this? Are you REALLY ready and willing? Not just saying this because you are in this motivated mood at this moment. Because once the motivation wears off you have to be sure that what you said you wanted and what you were willing to do to get there is still as true as it was on day one.
This step can take one day or several. The more you have your plan/goals/obstacles mapped out and you’ve really grasped the concept of changing and what efforts it entails the better off you’ll be at sticking with your program. Message me if you would like journal prompts for this step.
