Steps to a fitter lifestyle - Part 7 Consistency
For the final step in this series – being consistent
To recap -
Here are the steps we covered….
1) Get your mind ready
2) Start tracking your food
3) Work on your mindset
4) Make it a habit
5) Integrate exercise
6) Accept that setbacks are a part of the journey
7) Stay consistent
If you’ve mastered steps 1-6, the final thing you would have to adopt in order to be the best version of the fittest you (and keep your results) would be to stay consistent.
Not to be perfect – but to be consistent. Yes, setbacks happen, things will get in the way of your workout time, maybe you are off track one day of your diet program; but overall, you are consistent. You keep sowing up for your workouts. You keep tracking your calories, prepping your foods, eating according to your plan. You fall down or slip, but you pick yourself back up and get right back on track. You keep repeating this consistently and you WILL get your results and KEEP your results.
Too often we make the mistake of letting one slip cause us to throw in the towel completely. We eat the “wrong” food and then decide we blew it and eat crap for the rest of the day. The next day we feel disappointed in ourselves so we eat “junks’ again. The following day we feel sluggish from all that food, add that to our further disappointment and we just say we’ll start again on Monday and just eat everything and anything until then. If this is our consistent pattern, you probably already know that the consistent result would be never really reaching your goal, and constantly being stuck in this cycle. If you could instead, change your pattern and be consistent in sticking to your plan as many days as you can, and get back on track soon after you slip; you’d see that you would be much closer to reaching your goal.
What are your consistent patterns when it comes to your exercise and nutrition program?
What results does this get you? If you were more consistent, do you think you would get different results?
Is there anything you can tweak to help you stay more consistent?
All in all, you can and you WILL get your results as long as you don’t give up.
